In its colorful history, the Greenhorn
Valley has been claimed and fought over by Indians, foreign
countries, the Confederacy, various states, the Jefferson and
Colorado territories, and the new State of Colorado. It is one of
the original Colorado counties and in 1866 added a part of Huerfano
County to its southeast corner.

Fishermen enjoy catching trout in
nearby Lake Isabel and high country streams, and reeling in big
bass, crappie and catfish in Lake Beckwith and Lake Pueblo. In
winter, snowmobilers, cross-country skiers and downhill skiers enjoy
the resorts of Monarch and Cuchara Valley.
The hardest part about visiting the Greenhorn Valley is when it
comes time to leave. So hard, in fact, that many people don't leave!
Come for a visit and remember to stop by our United Country office.
Don't be surprised if, like so many who have visited before, you
want to lay claim to a bit of Greenhorn Valley for yourself.
